IP6 or Inositol Hexaphosphate is more commonly
known as Phytate or Phytic Acid. It is a
molecule with a ring structure, consisting of
one molecule of inositol surrounded by six
phosphaate groups (one atom of phosphorous with
four of oxygen). Phytate is probably best known
as a componet of dietary fiber which, in the
past, has most often entered a discussion of
dietary supplemetation as an inhibitor of
mineral absorption. Inositol phosphates,
including IP6, are present in all mammalian
cells. They have from one to six phosphate
groups and may gain or lose phosphate groups.
IP6 is known to promote the activity of
lymphocytes, or natural killer cells, which
are able to kill cancer cells. These and other
actions of IP6 account for its beneficial
effects in many conditions. Two examples are:
its calcium binding properties reduce kidney
stone formation, while its antioxidant and
iron binding properties inhibit the progres-
sion of lung fibrosis in asbestosis.

IP6 should be taken two or more times daily,
on an empty stomach to avoid interaction with

inositol with each administration of IP6.
