DR. BOLLES IS
UNDER ATTACK AGAIN
HE NEEDS YOUR HELP!
by Ed Bolles, Clinic Manager
THE MEDICAL QUALITY ASSURANCE COMMISSION OF WASHINGTON STATE (FORMERLY AND MORE APPROPRIATELY THE MEDICAL DISCIPLINARY BOARD) HAS FILED CHARGES AGAINST DR. BOLLES AGAIN.
Dr. Bryce was quoted as saying: we will accept nothing less than Dr. Bolles license. We and our lawyers feel the case is quite weak. We are not surprised by the attitude of the board towards us, for it has always been extreme and we feel it is prejudiced. As many of you know Dr. Bolles has been harassed by the board a number of times before. In the last go around we decided to take the position of giving the board some of what it wanted to soothe troubled waters.
We have bent over backwards to do this and yet they have found something new to charge us with. The scary part is the board operates under administrative law which has the effect of giving the board a lot more power than they should have. They can decide the fate of a doctor with little recourse by the doctors. In other words, regardless of the facts of the case they can vote to take a physicians license and that seems to be pretty much it.
The problem lies in the fact that most of the people on the board are MDs who have spent their careers doing standard medicine and know little about alternative treatments. The also have a definite prejudice against MDs who delve into alternatives. (Since insurance companies are covering Naturopathic treatments done by Naturopaths why aren't they covering MDs who do similar treatments? And since the public wants these kinds of services why hasnt the Medical Disciplinary Board caught up with the times and modified their system to fit MD alternative practitioners into such a system in a fair and just way?)
By allowing them to continue on this path we are allowing them to

Osteoporosis:
the role of hormones
by Stephanie Taylor-White, ND
Osteoporosis is a degenerative disease that is preventable and treatable. In the last newsletter I talked about the important nutrients for bone health, and this time I will present the role of natural hormones in preventing and treating osteoporosis. When you put good nutrition together with balanced hormones you get healthy and strong bones.
PROGESTERONE
Many women know about the importance of estrogen in preventing bone loss, but not many know the new evidence that it is progesterone that is more important for stimulating bone formation.
In 1981, John R. Lee, MD, began a study of the effect of progesterone on women with established osteoporosis. He had the women apply a progesterone cream to their skin as the form of treatment. Within 3 years the patients reported that aches and pains in the muscles and bones disappeared, height loss was stabilized, and there were no osteoporotic fractures in the three year period. Sixty-three of the 100 participants had dual photon absorptiometry of their lumbar spine taken to monitor

AURICULAR ACUPUNCTURE CAN HELP RELEASE MERCURY by Virginia Knapp, L.Ac.. |
One of the ubiquitous toxins of the twentieth century is mercury metal. Chronic, low-level exposure is a slow smoldering, often unrecognized health problem. Mercury enters into most cells, including those of the brain, kidney, adrenals, liver, pituitary and prostate. Mercury is especially damaging to the nervous system.
Originally used in Chinese medicine in the form of Cinnabar, red mercury ore powder, it was thought to enhance longevity. It is used in formulas for mania, convulsions, epilepsy, insomnia and carbuncles to cool the heart and soothe the mind. In these formulas it is used in very small amounts for a very short time. Several emperors met an early end by over use of mercury tonics.
Today, we are exposed, even before birth, to environmental mercury. Sources include, silver dental amalgam fillings (50% mercury), seafood, paints, batteries, fertilizers, pesticides, felt fabric, auto exhaust and drinking water. Mercury can block the absorption of folic acid by the fetus, which may lead to birth defects.
Mercury accumulation can lead to nervous and mental symptoms of anxiety, nervousness, depression, memory loss, speech disorders, irritability, apathy, tremors, colitis, chronic fatigue, muscle weakness, acne and skin rash. These symptoms may be worse at night, during rainy, cold, damp weather or after perspiration. Mercury accumulation weakens tissues and may allow invasion by parasites and candida.
The body tries to rid itself of mercury by conjugation with the tripeptide, glutathione, or the amino acid glycine. Physicians can administer DMPS for chelation or DMSA which is an oral chelating agent. Supplements which can help detoxify the tissues are garlic, vitamin C, manganese, blue-green algae or Icelandic kelp, and homeopathic remedies.
Acupuncture can balance the meridians and strengthen the organs to help the body release toxins. Muscle testing and Nogier auricular medicine uses the biofield of the body to detect mercury held in the body. Treatment of the specific ear points can help open the drainage systems of the body to release the toxin. A chemical hair analysis can provide a further picture of those metals that have accumulated and are being excreted by the body.
In general, there is a balance between how much mercury gets into the body and how much we are able to eliminate. The end result is mercury accumulation. Reduce your contact as much as possible, determine if this is a health risk for you and research the resources that can help you eliminate mercury. The Bolles Clinic has many resources to help you. DAMS (Dental Amalgam Mercury Syndrome) support group meets once per month except in the summer-time, on Bell-Red Road near the clinic (206 790-8993.)

Tahiti... NATURAL FORCE HEALING, now at the Bolles Clinic |
Just in time to free yourself from the winter blahs... The Bolles Clinic is proud to be one of the few clinics in the country - just 3 in the state of Washington - with a Certified Practitioner of Natural Force Healing on staff.
This soothing, therapeutic energy work has been clinically documented by Dr. Ken Davis of New Jersey, and was coveted by an exclusive group of doctors for over 12 years before being shared with Healers around the country. Using kinesthetic muscle responses to identify which levels are needed, the client feels the warm healing energy penetrate their skin and tangibly experience a beneficial shift during each session. Clients frequently report relief from aches and pains when just one level of Natural Force Healing (NFH) has been cleared. The subtle yet far reaching results of NFH continue to unfold for several days following treatment as clients readily notice new, empowered responses to previous stresses on the physical, mental or emotional level.
Nothing splendid has ever
been achieved
except by those who dared believe that something inside
them was superior to circumstance. (Napoleon Hill)
The stress reducing and therapeutic effects of Natural Force Healing can be experienced in as brief as a one half-hour session, once the kinesthetic muscle response and client-healer relationship have been established, usually during a one hour or initial NFH session. Unlike massage, the client remains fully clothed as the practitioner works just above the body in the "energy field". Afterwards, clients are delighted to discover that the tenderness of corresponding reflex points have disappeared.
New to our staff, Diane DePartee is one of 11 Certified Practitioners in Natural Force Healing in the country. Dianes unique style of Holistic Counseling includes Personal Growth and Cancer Coaching, empowering combinations of non-invasive therapeutic techniques which facilitate the bodys innate ability to heal by giving voice to the wishes of the soul.

Herbal Highlights... New product available at the clinic: Aloe Vera for internal and external use from Carrington Laboratories, Inc
by Stephanie Taylor-White, ND
Aloe Vera has been used for centuries for its healing properties, probably originating from Egypt or the Middle East. It is most known for its ability to treat skin infections, wounds and burns. And just as we have an outer skin, our digestive tract is considered an inner skin. Aloe Vera is very healing to stomach irritations such as gastritis and ulcers, in addition it will treat inflammation and irritation of the small intestine (such as in crohns disease) and colon (colitis).
There are numerous scientific studies demonstrating its effectiveness in treating peptic ulcer, its antibacterial and antifungal activity, as well as the constituent "acemannan" (acetylated mannose) having anti-viral activity. The studies go on to confirm its anti-allergy and anti-inflammatory aspects which explain its topical effectiveness, its benefit in inflammatory bowel diseases and stomach irritations.
Even beyond these local effects, a study in 1985 by Shida et al produced good results with Aloe Vera given to patients who suffer from asthma.
Aloe Vera contains many biologically active compounds which account for its healing properties. The acemannans are very susceptible to breakdown and lose their effectiveness in a short amount of time. Carrington Laboratories, Inc. has patented a freeze drying process which preserves this important constituent to maintain its healing actions. In addition, their Aloe Vera plants are organically grown and extracting only the gel of the inner leaf.
The Bolles Clinic has a commitment to offering only high quality supplements to our patients and we feel that Carrington Laboratories has the most effective aloe products on the market today.

bone density and all of them demonstrated some level of bone density increase. The women in the study averaged an increased bone density of 15.4% over the three years.
ESTROGEN
Healthy bone is constantly remodeling itself as its normal activity. This remodeling is a balance of bone formation and bone "resorption" (meaning bone loss). From the previous discussion we see that it is progesterone that seems to stimulate the bone formation half of the equation.
Estrogen, on the other hand, has long been known to prevent the excess bone resorption process found in menopausal and osteoporotic women. Hence estrogen can prevent the progression of osteoporosis but has not been shown to actually increase bone density. Taking only estrogen replacement is not the entire answer (refer to my article "Osteoporosis: the role of vitamins and minerals for an even more complete picture).
DHEA
DHEA is a hormone secreted by the adrenal glands and the ovaries, its levels seem to decline with age. It has direct effects on the body by itself and it is a precursor hormone to estrogen and testosterone.
There is no direct evidence that DHEA will effect bone density, however in diseases that decrease the function of the adrenal glands and reduced DHEA, there is also decreased bone density. We can thus infer that DHEA may be helpful in treating osteoporosis.
Please note that DHEA is the only hormone available over the counter and should be taken only when there is an observable deficiency (measured in blood or saliva), and even then the length of time on
DHEA should be limited. A dosage appropriate for women is no more than 5 mg per day, and for men no more than 25 mg per day unless it is prescribed under the care of a physician.
TESTOSTERONE
Testosterone is found not just in men but women do make a small amount of it in the ovaries and adrenal glands. Some women do suffer from insufficient testosterone, although it is rare.
This hormone does help build bone, which is partially the reason why men suffer less often from osteoporosis. The very high levels increase their muscle mass and bone density as compared to women.
In order to successfully address hormone replacement with regard to osteoporosis I suggest that you educate yourself as much as possible (I highly recommend reading Preventing and Reversing Osteoporosis by Alan Gaby, MD) and have a qualified physician help you plan your hormone replacement for optimal success. (See page 2 of this newsletter if you are interested in screening for your own bone density)

The Paradigm: "What if..."
What if the Cure to cancer isnt in any medical textbook, nor in any lab...?
What if cancer is not a cause, but a symptom of an underlying issue...?
What if illness is not a problem to be solved, but a language spoken by the body...? What if the Cure for cancer is... within You?
As a Cancer Survivor, I find it curious that no one has ever asked the Soul for its opinion. What if Cancer is a Custom Created Lesson for our personal growth, with a Cast of Thousands providing the setting and special
effects, for us to learn the unique secret of ourselves - Our Worth! Our Perpose! Our Passion!
What is your passion, anyway? What will you do when the experience called Cancer... is over?
How will you know when its over?
Ive noticed that what I put my attention to, increases. When the voice in my meditation said, "Its over. Youre done. Close the book. Dont try to open it again, its over..." I was elated! When this secret was confirmed by a doctor, I plummeted into depression. Why? Because I had never thought about what will I do ... when its over...

Dr. Bolles needs your help...continued from page 1
create fear in MDs who might want to try alternative treatment in their practices yet decide not to due to the wrath of the state. Dont get me wrong, I am not against the regular orthodox MD for I believe they do a tremendous amount of good in their areas of expertise, but most of these MDs havent been taught in medical school too much about alternative therapies. The MDs who do know about these type of therapies are the ones who have passionately gone out on their own and learned through self-study, seminars, etc. Clearly MDs in alternatives are brave souls who need our help.
If we want to have alternative treatments available to us, We The People are going to have to try and do something about it. Remember that under an MDs license he is allowed to prescribe drugs and give intravenous therapies amongst other things. Those of you who have had some of our treatments know how beneficial they can be. There are very few MDs willing to do these type of treatments due to the pressures of the system. If we are to hope to have these things available in the future then we will need to take action in the effort of creating a safe place for MDs to practice alternative treatments.
The action we would like you to take at this point is to write your testimonial of your treatment results and send it here to me giving us permission to use it in our defense. We ask you to address the letter to the following people: Governor Gary Locke, Senator Slade Gorton, Senator Patty Murray, Representative Jack Metcalf, Representative Dan McDonald, Representative Stephen Johnson, Representative Sid Snyder, Representative Betti Sheldon and the Medical Quality Assurance Commission. Also, please let me know in the letter if you would be willing to come to the hearings and/or would be willing to make phone calls in support of us if we need it. There is the possibility that we will pursue a civil rights lawsuit in this case. If we do we will be seeking to raise funds for this. The attorneys think we will need at least $100,000. In addition, we wish to let you know that in the near future we will be having a petition available in the clinic to collect signatures of support for Dr. Bolles, we hope you will take time to add your name.
As things progress we will keep you informed. If you have any questions about the charges please call me and I will be happy to discuss it further with you. Thank you and keep us in your prayers. - Ed Bolles, Clinic Manager
